Two Years Later And Still Standing Strong!

August 9, 2011  |  News & Events

Everybody said we were crazy to start a new business in the middle of a recession, but despite this grueling economy, here we are two years later and still standing strong! It’s hard to believe that its time to plan our third annual Fashion’s Night Out party at the shop. It feels like the past two years have gone by in a flash, but when I look back at how much we’ve accomplished since opening our doors on the first Fashion’s Night Out in 2009 it’s kind of incredible.

Here's Patty holding up our temporary sign when we were still just "coming soon..."

For a small business start up we’ve managed to get covered by some pretty amazing media outlets. Starting with our cover story in USA Today in May 2010, we’ve seen the appeal of our story here at Patty Tobin. For starters, as an older entrepreneur and small business owner, Patty represents a relatively new phenomenon that’s going on in the current economy. She, like millions of Americans, decided to start a new business at an age when many choose to slow down. USA Today reporter Laura Petrecca picked up on this in her story, “More Older Americans Start Own Business,” which was followed by two stories with AMEX Open Forum and one with

Patty Tobin hit the runways of Austin last December for our first fashion show!

Beyond that, her jewelry line has an appeal all on its own. First for its beauty and style and second for its price-points. Everyone nowadays is looking for value in their purchases and I think our success is due in large part to how well we fit with today’s consumer demand. People love that they can get the quality with us that they would normally have seen priced at two- to three-times what we charge here at Patty Tobin.

Add to that her fashion-forward design style, which has become a favorite among CBS news anchors and regular CBS Early Show contributor, Dr. Jennifer Hartstein, as well as the local NYC socialite crowd. These women love being able to come to our store and pick out two and three pieces for what they normally would have paid for one piece uptown. We’ve seen a loyal following develop and a lot of customer referrals driving our business, so a big Thank You goes out to all of our patrons for your business and for telling your friends and family about us!

We even were in a music video this year with Prince Malik!

Fashion savvy CBS reporter, Karina Mitchell, was among the first to cover us for her Celebrity Circuit Fashion Week special report last year, saying that Patty’s jewelry could “best be described as wearable pieces of art.” We’ve also had the pleasure of being covered by leading beauty and style blogger and contributor, Jeanine Morris, and celebrity blogger, Jill Dobson. When you combine all of that with features in In Style and now Esthetique, we’re so very pleased with the attention our little jewelry box in Chelsea has garnered.

With no plans of slowing down in sight, Patty Tobin will soon be adding two new markets to our roster with Miami, Florida and Vilnius, Lithuania slated for openings this fall. (Stay tuned for more exciting news on this in the coming weeks…)

Nobody can say we don't throw a killer party at Patty Tobin

In the meantime though, mark your calendars for Fashion’s Night Out at Patty Tobin Fine Fashion Jewelry Boutique on September 8th from 6:00PM – 11:00PM. For any of you who have partied with us in the past, you know what to expect 🙂 For those of you who have never joined us for one of our all-out bashes before, we invite you to come downtown and dance the night away to live entertainment, sip champagne, enjoy some yummy hors d’oeurves, and get a sneak peak at our new fall collection.

As Seen On CBS: Yurga Lago

We are so excited about our collaboration with renown European designer Yurga Lago!!!  Her pieces have been a sensation here in New York and can be found exclusively at Patty Tobin.  One of our very favorite friends, Dr. Jennifer Hartstein, who appears on the CBS Early Show, chose the Yurga brooch you see her wearing here in sterling silver.  Yurga loves designing many of her pieces using birds as the theme.  Yurga will be hosting Patty Tobin this October in Vilnius which will mark our European debut.  Foreign relations have never been better!

Esthetique C’est Magnifique

We’re so excited to be working with ESTHÉTIQUE, a brand new magazine with novel and original ideas on design and fashion. ESTHÉTIQUE is such a refreshing change from the magazines we’re used to seeing on the shelves. The fashion editorials are fresh and progressive, the photography is sensual and beautiful, and — if we do say so ourselves — their stylists have an uncanny eye for selecting designer pieces and putting together outstanding looks. We have a special sneak-peak into their second issue to share with our readers, so you can see what were talking about. Check out how they fashioned our Baroque Coin Pearl Torsade in peacock and our Shell Pearl necklace in teal for this cover shoot.

ESTHÉTIQUE is a place where new and up-and-coming designers like us meet vintage. It’s the perfect place for creative people to discover the unique, classic and fresh designs of New York City. And it’s even a place where people outside of this creative milieu can visit and appreciate the beauty and edginess of New York’s fashion and design worlds. The magazine is distributed primarily in and around the New York and Japan fashion industries, but also has a growing presence world-wide.

Obsession of the Week (

Magnetic appeal of the nesting necklace.

While in last week, Jeannine Morris, prominent beauty blogger noted the innovative concept of  Patty Tobin’s nesting necklaces with magnetic clasp. The versatility of this design allows the wearer multiple styling options.  The classic look is wearing the pair together. Other options include wearing each piece separately and; using the elegant magnetic clasp to rope the two pieces together  for a long, chic look.

Something new, Something borrowed, Something old and Something blue!

Every bride knows this staple good luck wedding custom, performed to ensure a blissfully happy marriage, and we love our brides! Nowadays, brides are sticking with classic elegance but incorporating these traditions with more of a modern day edge.

Take Veronica, a bride from D.C. who stumbled into the boutique late last week looking for her special “something blue”. She was taken aback by the Turquoise shard and sterling silver chain featured in the boutique window. She had to have it. And she did. She is so excited to pair the stylish statement necklace with her plunging V-neck gown to create a look that is sure to WOW her guests and most importantly her special man.
