Residents of Beaufort County, South Carolina, are eagerly awaiting the grand green re-opening of Tanger Outlets Center 1 shopping center, which is slated for March 31. The new center will replace one opened by other developers in 1987 and bought by Tanger in 2003 and will be the state’s first shopping center to be certified by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards (LEEDs). The original center was poorly built and could not accommodate many tenants’ request for large spaces, Tanger officials said, but the new center fixes all of that and more. Developers proudly announced the addition of several new retailers, including Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH, Adidas, Bare Escentuals, Brooks Brothers, DKNY Donna Karan New York, Hugo Boss, J.Crew, and many more. “Our brands are aspirational,” said Mona Walsh, Tanger assistant vice president for corporate communications. “What we’re offering is value.” Check out WHHI-TV’s video interview with Mona Walsh to learn more about the economic and environmental benefits of the much anticipated new shopping center. It wasn’t until her late-50s that Patty Tobin decided to wave goodbye to her life-long career as a business strategy consultant and embrace a new life and a new business as a jewelry designer. Despite the tough economic times, Tobin opened her Chelsea boutique in September 2009. “I was nervous knowing what I was up against,” Tobin said. “Branding a business in a good economy is challenging, and a bad economy is worse. As a consultant, I knew all of it.” While support from family and friends was critical, there were still some who doubted her venture, says Tobin. “I had some people saying it’s going to be over before it starts.” Despite the naysayers, however, Tobin has seen so much success in the first two-years of her business that she plans to open a second boutique in the next year. When looking to make a major career change, Tobin says, “”Know there will be defeats and challenges along the way,” she said. “But if you’re passionate, it will give you the strength to forge ahead.”

New York style hit the runways of Austin last week as jewelry designer Patty Tobin and clothing designer Thuy partnered with celebrity stylist and hair-extraordinaire Ron King for a much anticipated fashion show right in the heart of Texas. Austin’s elite turned out in droves for the show with celebs, media and the local A-list socialites walking the red carpet. The runway was ablaze with color as models strutted their stuff in Thuy’s Spring 2011 Collection and jewelry by Patty Tobin. Big gemmy necklaces and colorful crystal stackable bracelets were all the rage at the show as the designer’s signature styles were modeled down the runway for the first time.
